This smoked salmon bagel is a timeless favorite that delivers the perfect balance of richness and freshness. Creamy whipped cream cheese meets delicate, buttery smoked salmon, layered on a toasted bagel for the ideal bite.

 

Finished with crisp red onion, capers, and a squeeze of lemon, this dish is light yet satisfying — perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a quick elevated lunch. Simple, elegant, and packed with flavor, it’s a go-to staple done right.

Ingredients

  • 2 bagels (plain, sesame, or everything), sliced

  • 4–6 oz smoked salmon

  • 1/2 cup cream cheese (plain or whipped)

  • 1/4 red onion, thinly sliced

  • 2 tbsp capers, drained

  • 1/2 lemon, cut into wedges

  • Fresh dill (optional)

  • Fresh cracked black pepper

Directions

  1. Toast the Bagels:
    Toast bagels until golden and slightly crisp.
     

  2. Spread the Base:
    Generously spread cream cheese on both halves of each bagel.
     

  3. Layer the Salmon:
    Add smoked salmon evenly over the cream cheese.
     

  4. Add Toppings:
    Top with sliced red onion, capers, and fresh dill if using.
     

  5. Finish & Serve:
    Squeeze fresh lemon juice over top, add cracked black pepper, and serve immediately.
